Don’t forget to try Garageband

billy-bluesOne of the most fun things that comes with your Mac is Garageband, especially Magic Garageband, if you’re as unmusical as yours truly.

Here’s my arrangement of a Blues tune. Dare I try to add my own instrument track… or sing??? Not yet, but who knows about some day?[audio:http://macmemos.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/Magic-GarageBand-Blues.mp3]

BTW… it’s fun to Simpsonize yourself, too.

A photo gallery for the web

OK, I’m not saying that it’s the fastest-loading photo gallery ever made, but it’s good-looking and no coding was required to make it. I opened a folder of photos in iPhoto, exported it to iWeb, then published the “Site” to a folder on my Desktop.

I uploaded that folder to my Macmemos web space and you can see the results, here.

iPhoto: Photoshop for the rest of us

Macs are a good buy, not just from a hardware point of view, but because of the software that comes included at no extra cost. Consider iPhoto. You can make even a mediocre snapshot look very good with the easy-to-use tools that are built in.

Don’t miss the “adjust” button at the end of the editing toolbar. Look at all the control you have, just by adjusting the sliders. You could spend hours learning Photoshop, not to mention a lot of dollars, and still not achieve better results.

To learn the iLife applications that are included on every Mac, I like video lessons. Here are Apple’s.
